OUR VISION

The Great African Wilderness Foundation

is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, that was created to preserve, sustain and enhance the wild places of Africa and all the things that are found within.

GAWF was first founded in Uganda in March of 2021 by UNoK members, Joseph Wright, Dazangapai Donas and Balok Riang Chol.  It will be registered in South Sudan, across Africa, in the USA and around the globe.

What makes GAWF different than many other important African NGOs is that it focuses on the key concept of Wilderness.  It is not enough to simply manage a safe place for wildlife to live.  We must also strive to preserve the very essence of wildness that flourishes in the absence of the footprint of man.

Our mission is to collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and strengthen the concept and value of Wilderness throughout Africa and work to achieve designation of lands throughout the continent as “African Wilderness Areas”.  A critical component of this process is the conservation of wildlife, especially endangered and threatened species, for Wilderness and wildlife and inextricably linked.
